The light shifts, the air sharpens, and after the whirlwind of summer and conference season, I find myself craving focus. This is the season when I start thinking about traction—not the head-down, go-faster kind, but the grounded, steady kind. The kind that comes when you know what really matters.
WEFTEC is always one of my favorite weeks of the year. It’s the culmination of months of work—planning, messaging, design, and strategy—both for our clients and for our own team. It’s when all the pieces come together, and you can feel the collective energy of the industry in motion. The hum of ideas, the joy of seeing friends and partners, the reminder that what we do really matters.
But this year, I had to make the difficult decision to leave early and come home. It wasn’t the plan, but it was the right call. Family first.
On the flight home, I kept thinking about how easy it is—especially in this industry—to run full speed toward momentum. But traction doesn’t always mean more speed. Sometimes it’s about knowing when to slow down, recalibrate, and make sure you’re still aligned with your values.
At Bā, we’ve been talking more about what it really means to live our values—not as words on a page, but as something we practice day by day. Some days we get it right; other days it’s a work in progress. EOS has helped us build the scaffolding for that—giving us shared language, meeting rhythms, and priorities that keep us at least pointed in the same direction when things inevitably get messy. It’s not perfect, but it’s progress.
After a busy season of launches, events, and new partnerships, I’ve been reminded that structure doesn’t stifle creativity—it protects it. It’s what lets us make waves together, our first core value. Collaboration is where our best ideas come from, but collaboration also takes intention. It’s built on trust, and sometimes that means giving each other space, too.
Clarity has been another theme. “Deliver clarity” is one of our values for a reason—water is complicated, and so is marketing. Our job is to translate the technical into the tangible, to help innovators tell their story in a way that moves people. I’ve realized that the same clarity we promise our clients also applies internally. Clear communication, clear expectations, and clear priorities keep us moving in the same direction, even when things shift.
“Champion with care” might be the hardest value to live out, especially in seasons of growth. Care takes time. Integrity takes effort. And empathy isn’t always convenient. But it’s what makes the work meaningful. Leaving WEFTEC early was, in its own way, an act of care—a reminder that integrity starts at home.
The water industry never stands still. Between AI, PFAS, and policy shifts, we’re all adapting in real time. Our team is diving deep into new technologies and communications challenges, helping clients stay ahead of what’s next. But I think leading the curve also means knowing when to pause, listen, and learn. It’s not just about what’s coming—it’s about how we show up for it.
When I got home, the first thing I did was walk out to the garden. After months of color and chaos, everything is starting to fade back—seed heads browning, stems drying, pollinators finishing their last laps. It’s quieter now. The soil is tired. And honestly, so am I. But that’s part of the cycle. The garden needs time to rest, and so does the gardener. The pause is what allows growth to happen again in spring.
It’s the same for our work. We can’t always be in full bloom. Sometimes the best thing we can do is prepare the soil—reset systems, clear space, and trust that what we’ve planted will take root.
As we move through this season, I’m feeling grateful—for a team that’s learning, evolving, and staying curious; for clients who trust us with their vision; and for a community that keeps inspiring us to do better work. We’re closing out the year with new collaborations (including Mora joining the team and some exciting projects with Luminultra and others) and looking ahead to a fresh start in 2026.
Fall is nature’s reminder that letting go makes room for what’s next. So as the leaves turn, I’m taking a breath—proud of the traction we’ve built, and grounded in what will always keep us moving forward: clarity, care, collaboration, and purpose.
